Spring Graduates Look Toward Successful Careers

Each semester ARC celebrates the graduation of its Undergrad and Graduate students. This spring we had the pleasure of recognizing Nelisa Chacin, Keon John, Anand Kundur, Ajay Nagabonia, Hayri Sapmaz and Christopher Scott as they graduated.

Nelisa Chacin Nelisa Chacin completed her Masters Degree in International Business. She was awarded with membership into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society for being one of the top five students of the summer 2006 graduating class. As an international student from Venezuela she will receive a one-year U.S. Work Visa and she will use this year to continue her work in the business development group at ARC. Nelisa will continue to work under the guidance of Gloria Angulo.
Keon John

Keon John recently graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering. While at ARC, Keon worked on the FAA-sponsored Noisequest project.  For this project FIU teamed with Penn State and Purdue University to generate material for a website that would explain concepts associated with airport noise to the general public. Keon's role was to compile information including airport links and airport codes as well as the definitions of common airport noise terms. Keon completed this research under the direction of Dwayne McDaniel.

Anand Kundur Anand Kundur, has worked on many projects for ARC including an FAA project entitled Determination of Trends and Indicators of Population Encroachment Around Airports, and a WHIX project entitled Research and Writing for Western Hemispheric Country Reports and U.S. Report, which was sponsored by the U.S. Army. Anand has earned his Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. He will now pursue a career in this field using the classroom knowledge and hands on experiences from working and being mentored by Beth Pascal here at FIU-ARC.
  Ajay Nagabonia recently graduated with a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering. While at ARC he worked on projects under Peter Skudarnov for the Center’s major DOE grant, including the Office of River Protection on Waste Slurry Transport Characterization and Pipeline Unplugging for Hanford Site. In addition, Ajay worked under Chaouki Ghenai on a project with Howard University studying Real-time Measurement, Manipulation and Modeling of Airborne Particulates Generated from Decontamination Activities.
Hayri Sapmaz

Hayri Sapmaz worked as an ARC Graduate Assistant for the past six years. He was one of the principle individuals who helped establish ARC’s Advanced Combustion Lab in February 2001. Hayri recently earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and will use the education from FIU and the experience gained at ARC to further his career in the science and research field. Hayri worked directly under Chaouki Ghenai.

Christopher Scott

Christopher Scott has, and continues to be the friendly and helpful young man who greets ARC’s daily visitors, while keeping busy with many assignments to help the ARC staff. He has assisted ARC’s Executive Affairs office with numerous challenging tasks and has built a strong experience base while at the Center to compliment his newly earned Bachelors of Arts Degree in International Relations. Chris is continuing to work here over the summer while he prepares for a career in government or law enforcement. Chris works under the direction of JoAnn Bova.
