A new year implies a fresh start, clean slate, a time to
let your past habits go and begin again. This couldn’t
be truer than of ARC.
Our successful launch has led us into the New Year on a positive
note. I look forward to 2006… because this year marks
the opportunity for us to show the world what makes the Applied
Research Center so extraordinary. Our innovations, our explorations
and our ideas will bring FIU to the forefront in Applied Research.
And we will do it this year.
2006 will be the year of the ARC!
FIU
announced that it has signed two Agreements with
the United States Southern Command and the Army to collaborate
and develop scientific and technical assistance programs
in the U.S. and Latin America. The agreements were signed
during the official launching of a new, university-wide
Applied Research Center (ARC) at FIU that will direct
FIU research expertise to solve real-world problems in
the areas of defense support technologies, energy production,
environmental cleanup, and nuclear waste management and
remediation... |

Mentor Protégé Website Launch
Pending approval, FIU’s Applied Research
Center team will be creating and launching a brand new website
for the Mentor Protégé program. Due for completion
by February, the goal of this site will be to facilitate cross
communication between mentors and protégés along
the FIU system.
The capabilities of this website include; online
training courses, mentor and protégé communication,
location of said individuals and information on who is involved.
It may also be expandable to the Air Force, Navy, the Department
of Defense and so forth and will also aid in communications
with other Universities and Minority Institutions.
Gloria Angulo will be coordinating the effort,
Walter Quintero will be using the current ARC website as a
template for his designs, and Guillermo Murillo is responsible
for the structure and content development.
