The 2008 Western Hemisphere Security Colloquium is the preeminent event addressing hemispheric security. The event is designed to bring together senior academics, security specialists, diplomats and military personnel from throughout the Western Hemisphere to discuss important security issues.

The 2008 colloquium explores how to achieve security synergies by modifying organizational approaches. Specifically, it asks participants to examine interagency/interministerial/whole of government/interinstitutional responses to security issues. The colloquium starts with a description of the USG's efforts to rethink how it can achieve cross-government synergies in pursuit of "positive engagement" and restructure accordingly. The next several panels discuss regional approaches to cooperation, internally and with neighbors, from the perspective of Brazil, Canada, Jamaica, Guatemala, Chile, and Mexico. There also is a look at transforming cooperation at the regional level. The program will conclude by examining the utility of private/public partnerships in today's security environment.

In addition, the colloquium will feature Keynote speakers to include senior officials from the Department of State, United States Southern Command, and the Governments of Colombia and Mexico.

Please join us in the effort to identify new avenues for security cooperation and help usher in a new era in trans-American security.
